Jequel invites us into scenes of daily life : fishermen at action, people in a village or in the countryside. Having achieved perfection with his technique, he is considered the leading exponent of palette knife painting. He blends with virtuosity thick, lushous, juicy paint and dazzling color harmonies. After exibiting for more than forty years in prestigious salons in many cities in France and abroad like the United States, Japan, Spain, Africa, Dubaï, etc…, he is now an internationaly renown artist. His mastery of color and movement has brought him the recognition of his peers and many collectors.
Life expressed by movement is my goal in painting. In this workshop you will paint in the studio subjects of your own choice and I will show how to draw expressive sketches that portray a figure in movement or depict a landscape or rural scene. I will explain, once the subject has been chosen, how to make a number of choices like placement, value and color so that the painting will turn into a work of art endowed with emotion and beauty rather than being simply an anecdotal image without artistic interest. I will demonstrate the technique of palette knife painting that I developed and use myself. In one stroke of the palette knife you express shape, color, value and light. Each stroke of the palette knife needs to have a definite purpose, so you never make a meaningless stroke. I will examine all the aspects of this technique : What kind of a palette knife? How to hold it? How to load it? How to exert pressure? etc… The purpose is also to acquire a skillful technique so as to be able to get the painting look like the image you had in mind at the start. Level 1 is for those who have already a good practice of painting but are not familiar yet with Jequel's technique of palette knife painting.
Jequel was a member of the great national French salons like Comparaisons, Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the famous Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur Temps where he exhibited from 1973 to 1982 at the Galiera and Luxembourg museums. Galleries in France : Lacydon in Marseille, Mazarin in Toulon, de Cannes in Cannes, Salvany in Clermont-Ferrand, Mickaël Marciano and Jardin des Arts in Honfleur, l'Estuaire in Le Havre. He is famous in the United States for his paintings and silkscreen prints and he is represented in a great number of galleries, namely in Carmel, Scotsdale and New York City through the Lutece Gallery in San Francisco.
